Back to Top What is CLIPish? CLIPish provides a quick and easy way to find thousands of photos, images, clip art, emoticons, animations, and videos to use on your iPhone, iPod or iPad, each optimized for text messaging, emailing, Facebook, Twitter, using as wallpapers, and more. What CLIPish is NOT CLIPish is NOT a new text messaging or email application. CLIPish uses the iPhone, iPod and iPad's normal, built-in applications for sending text messages and emails. Back to Top Four Media Types There are four different types of media you can find and share with CLIPish: Clip Art - Clip art are photos, icons, graphics, and other "flat," non-moving image files. CLIPish provides access to literally millions of images, so you will likely find just about anything you'd need in clip art format. Clip art images are usually small files that can be sent quickly. Wallpapers - Wallpapers are the same as clip art images, only they are sized specifically to the ratio of an iPhone or iPad. Animations - Animations are basically the same as clip art, except they move. Animations are fun, and can be seen moving right inside the text message window of the iPhone. Depending on the email client of the person receiving the animation, they may or may not "play." Facebook does not allow ANY animations to "play" on their site, so you can send Animations to Facebook, but they will appear as a flat, non-animated image. Animations will play when sent via Twitter, as they are hosted on a linked-to page. Animation files can range anywhere from small to medium size, so they can take a little longer to send in a text message than clip art. You MUST use the Send or Copy Methods for inserting Animations, since the iPhone does not support saving Animations to your iPhone's photo library. (The iPhone turns Animations into flat clip art files if you save them to your photo library, and they will lose their animation.) Because Animations must use the Send or Copy methods, they can have the most compatibility problems when sending via text message to non-iPhone cell phones. Videos - Videos have both sound and motion. They can't be seen moving inside the text message window, but rather must be "played" by tapping on them or the link provided when sending. Videos have the largest file sizes and it can take a while to send one. We are constantly adding more videos to the CLIPish library. Back to Top Send via Text Messaging Because you need a MMS-compatible cell provider for text messaging, this section is for iPhone users only, not iPad or iPod users. CLIPish provides three different methods for inserting multi media images into a text message: Send Method - This is by far the simplest method. Just find the image you'd like to send, tap on the Send button, then tap the Text Message button which will then run your iPhone's Messages app. Pick the person you want to send the image to, and then tap inside the text input box and then select Paste. Pros: Quick and easy. Doesn't clutter up your iPhone's Photo Library with images. Ideal for "one-off" images you will not use often. Cons: Must run CLIPish each time you want to send an item. Possible compatibility problems when sending to certain non-iPhone cell phones. Copy Method - This is essentially the same as the Send method in that it uses the iPhone's internal clipboard to Copy and Paste images. This method simply provides the flexibility of copying the image to other applications as well, not just the Messages app. Save Method - Stores images in your iPhone's Photo Library. Pros: Can quickly insert items without running CLIPish each time. Ideal for items you send often. Fewer compatibility problems with non-iPhone users. Cons: Can't use for sending Animations. Can clutter up your iPhone's Photo Library. Back to Top Send via Email To send images and videos via email from within the CLIPish app, simply: - Find an image or video to send from the Browse, Search or Recent tabs. - Tap the Send button to move the image to the device's Clipboard and take you to the Send tab. - Tap the Email button. This will open a compose email page and paste your image into the body of the email. - Enter who you'd like to send the image to, make any changes to the Subject line, enter any message you'd like to include, and then tap Send. Optionally, you can send Clip Art, Wallpapers, and Videos (not Animations) using the device's email app. Just copy them to the Clipboard and use the paste command inside the app. Back to Top Send via Facebook To post images or videos from CLIPish to Facebook (your wall, Friends' walls, Pages or Groups), simply: - Find an image or video to send from the Browse, Search or Recent tabs. - Tap the Send button to move the image to the device's Clipboard and take you to the Send tab. - Tap the Facebook button. Enter any message you'd like to send along with the image and tap Post. Facebook Symbols: Along with any text message you post, you can include symbols to your post, by tapping on the Symbols button on the keyboard. This allows you to use text, symbols, and an image or video, all in one post. Facebook Posting Limit: Facebook limits the number of posts a user can make using 3rd party applications. If you get an error saying you've reached your limit, you will need to wait 24 to 48 hours before Facebook will let you start posting again. PLEASE NOTE! This is a limit placed by Facebook, not CLIPish. PLEASE don't give us a bad review for this, as we have no control over this. Animations on Facebook: Facebook does not allow ANY animations to "play" on their site. So, you can send Animations to Facebook, BUT they will appear as a flat, non-animated image. PLEASE NOTE! This is a limitation of Facebook, not CLIPish. PLEASE don't give us a bad review for this, as we have no control over Facebook's no-animation policy. Two Facebook Storage Options: When you send an image to your own wall, CLIPish will present you with two different options for storing the image or video that you're posting. You can choose to post only a "Link" to the item, or you can choose to "Save" the item in your Facebook photo library. The Link option will produce a slightly smaller thumbnail of the image on your wall, but has the advantage of not cluttering up your Facebook photo library with the images you post. (NOTE: Facebook ONLY allows the Link option when posting to Friends, Pages or Groups. The Save options is ONLY available when posting items to your own wall.) Facebook Status Update vs Profile Wall Post: Here is how CLIPish works. If no image is attached, then it updates your Facebook "status" with whatever you enter. So, if you tap the Remove Image button and then enter a message, that will show up as a status update. You can use the symbols in your status update (just tap on the Symbols on the keyboard). However, if you have an image attached, Facebook doesn't support updating your status with an image. So, what CLIPish does in this case, is post the image and text you enter to your profile wall. Your friends and others will see that, since they see anything you post to your own wall. To Logout of Facebook: 1. Tap on the Send tab. 2. Tap on the Facebook button. 3. Tap on the Remove Attachment button (if there is one) 4. Tap on the Logout button. Back to Top Send via Twitter To "tweet" images or videos from CLIPish to your Twitter page, simply: - Find an image or video to send from the Browse, Search or Recent tabs. - Tap the Send button to move the image to the device's Clipboard and take you to the Send tab. - Tap the Twitter button. Enter any message you'd like to send along with the image and tap Tweet. Twitter Symbols: Along with any text message you post, you can include symbols to your post, by tapping on the Symbols button on the keyboard. This allows you to use text, symbols, and an image or video, all in one tweet. Note: Twitter does not support posting images or videos in a "tweet," so what CLIPish does is hosts the item on our site and attaches a short URL link to your tweet which followers click on to view the image or watch the video. To Logout of Twitter: 1. Tap on the Send tab. 2. Tap on the Twitter button. 3. Tap on the Remove Attachment button (if there is one) 4. Tap on the Sign Out button. Back to Top Send via WhatsApp & Other 3rd-Party Messaging Apps Unlike the iPhone's MMS text messaging app, WhatsApp does not currently support the cut and paste function of the iOS for images, so to send images with WhatsApp (as well as many other popular messaging apps), you need to save the image to your device's photo library and then insert it into your WhatsApp message from there. 1. Find the image you want to send. 2. Tap the Save button. 3. Run WhatsApp. 4. Tap on the insert button and then the Choose Existing button. 5. Find the image in your Photo Library and tap on it. A NOTE ABOUT ANIMATIONS: Because the iOS saves animations as still images, any animation you send with WhatsApp way will be converted to a "non-playing" still image. To text message animations and have them "play," you'll need to use the iPhone's MMS text messaging app (tap Send within CLIPish and then tap the Text Message button). Back to Top Set Wallpaper Currently there is no support for developers to change your wallpaper directly from within their app. So, to set your wallpaper, save the image you're interested in to your local device by tapping the Save button in CLIPish. Quit CLIPish and run the device's Photos app. Look in the Camera Roll for the image you just saved. Select that image and tap on the Share button (icon showing a square and arrow). Tap on the Use as Wallpaper button. Back to Top Use with iWork Apps Apple has three great apps for the iPad which are part of their "iWork" family of applications. They are, Keynote (for presentations), Pages (for word processing), and Numbers (for spreadsheets). CLIPish is a fantastic tool to help you find images to use in these apps, particularly for Keynote and Pages, which can benefit greatly by adding photos and clip art. For example, suppose you're putting together a presentation in Apple's Keynote app, and you want to have the logo of a particular company on one of your slides. Simply run CLIPish, tap on the Search tab, and enter in the name of the company followed by the word "logo," (i.e. "Nike Logo"). This will produce several images to choose from. Save the one you like to your iPad by tapping the Save button (save as "Original"). You can then insert the image into your Keynote presentation from your iPad's photo library. Back to Top Use with iMovie App Apple offers a great app for video-enabled iPhones called iMovie (you can get it in the app store). It lets you quickly produce HD videos right from your iPhone. CLIPish provides special iMovie "template" images to use with iMovie. With CLIPish, you can add text, titles and credits to your iMovies, as well as find millions of photos, clip art, emoticons, and HD backgrounds. On the Browse tab, you can find two videos to help you understand how the iMovie templates work. Go the the Browse tab and search for "imovie-videos." Watch the "iMovie Templates DEMO" video for an example of how you can use CLIPish with iMovie. The "iMovie Templates TUTORIAL" video explains the four steps to use CLIPish with iMovie. The steps involved are: 1. Select one of the millions of images, photos, HD backgrounds, etc. (Tap on the iMovies Templates featured search for lots of great backgrounds in HD.) 2. Crop, rotate and add text to the image. 3. Save the image to your photo library. 4. Insert into your iMovie. Back to Top Uploading Your Own Photos CLIPish allows you to upload your own photos, edit them (rotate, crop, & add text), save them in your Favorites, and then send them to others, just as you would any image you find with CLIPish. There is a special "UPLOADED" folder on your Favorites page to upload and store your images. To use your own photos: - Tap on the Recent/Favorite tab. - Tap on Your Saved FAVORITES. - Tap on the UPLOADED folder. - Tap on the Upload button. - Navigate to the image you'd like to use, or take a new photo with your camear. - Rotate, crop and add text as needed. Back to Top Removing Watermarks CLIPish adds a small "watermark" to the bottom of each image (i.e. "Sent using CLIPish iPhone app"). We use this to let others know about CLIPish. However, if you're using one of the paid versions of CLIPish, you can elect to remove the watermarks. Simply go to the Home tab and toggle the watermarks on and off by tapping on the Watermarks button. When turned off, watermarks will be removed from ALL images (clip art, animations, wallpapers, etc.) from ALL the different tabs (Browse, Search and Recent) and using the Send, Copy or Save methods. So, it basically removes the watermark from everything, everywhere. The only exception to this is with Videos. (The CLIPish credit will still appear at the end of each video.) Back to Top Flagging Objectionable Images Because this app accesses Internet content, it uses a very effective filtering system to block out obscene, pornographic and defamatory images. However, as with any Internet filter, it is impossible to guarantee that it will block all objectionable images with 100% accuracy. Therefore, although unlikely, using this app could expose you to Internet pictures and materials that you may find objectionable. To reduce the chances of this happening, and for the highest level of filtering, you should set your filter to the Strict setting. The Family Edition of CLIPish is available in the App Store. This version locks the filter in the Strict setting, ideal for younger children. Please help improve our filtering system by flagging any inappropriate images (by tapping on the flag icon). Flagged images are immediately excluded and are reviewed to see if they should remain permanently in the app's filtering system. (NOTE: The flagging system is a new feature, available on newer editions of the app. If you do not yet have this feature, please email support@clipish.net to report any objectionable images.) Back to Top Tips, Tricks & Shortcuts Tip #1: Quick Copy - If you see the image you want to use while in the grid mode of the Browse, Search or Recent tabs, you don't need to expand the image and select Copy. Instead, just hold your finger on the image for a second or so, and it will copy the image to the clipboard. Tip #2: Emailing Multiple Images - When you use the Send tab to send images while running CLIPIish, it makes the image an attachment (which is the only way Apple currently allows 3rd-party apps to do this). This means you can only attach a single image per email and it will always appear at the end of the email as an attachment. However, if you would like to attach multiple images to the same email, and have them stay where you place them, you can use your device's regular Mail app, copying and pasting multiple images into the same email. You can also place the images where you like using this method. (NOTE: How the email will appear on the other end is also a factor of the email service someone is using, such as Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc. and the client they are using to view the email. For this reason, they may or may not see it exactly how you sent it. This has nothing to do with CLIPish.) Tip #3: Quickly Saving Images from Others on the Recent Tab for Later Use - If you see something on the Recent tab from Others that you think you might like to use later, just tap the Copy button. That will make a copy of that image in YOUR recently used area. When you want to use the image, just tap on the Recent tab, and then tap on the Recently Used by YOU column and you'll find the image there. (Of course, if the image isn't an animation, you can also just Save the image to your device's Photo Libary and use it from there.) More tips coming soon!
